Aa: Annoying

O.k I am going to vent a minute.
It really bugs me that there are two different ways to make a lowercase "a". Why do we write it one way, but we read it in text a different way? Why can't they just be the same? It's really "annoying" when your little 4 year old is learning to read and he can recognize the letters for what they are until he gets to "a". How am I supposed to answer him when he asks why the "a" looks like "that" but we right it like "that" Ugh!

I always tell them it is. Just another way to write an a. Also that English is silly and things don't always make sense!

Too true about English being silly! It's tough to learn the alphabet when half the letter sound exactly the same (c - z - e - p - b... you get the gist!) and so many latter seem to contain an "o", like g and d and b are all circles, just with little lines attached! Who knew it was so hard?

That is a good point! When I write my "a"s, I write them both ways, depending on what word I am writing...my poor kids are going to be so confused! I have never even thought about that. Funny!

lol! =) I have to be careful what computer font I use in my classroom for that very reason.

It's annoying. You learn to roll with it. It used to be worse - remember the "s" that looked like an uncrossed "f"?

But it's okay. It's a good warning shot that English is going to be a ride to learn that will help a lot when he gets to pronouncing "gh".

Awesome! English is a crazy language, it's a miracle we ever learn to read at all--and that is a quote from my special education teacher in college. She said, it should take a rocket scientist to teach kids how to read the english language. Braxton is doing AWESOME, one of the top in my class. Just read read read to him, and he will be fine. I will bet he reads before Kindergarten.

he did an extra job all on his own the other day. He has such a love for baseball that he wrote about it!
